Side Bet
A side bet is an optional extra wager on a secondary event. It usually has high payouts but a higher house edge than the main bet.
Also known as: side wager, proposition bet
Definition
A side bet is an optional wager, separate from the main one, on a secondary event of the round — for example a starting pair in blackjack or a specific combination in live baccarat.
It offers potentially high payouts but almost always a house edge markedly higher than the base bet: statistically it is the most expensive part of the table. In game shows, bets on bonus rounds work similarly.
